Where do your fabrics come from?
We source our fabric from a variety of places. A large portion of our fabric is made especially for our products! In Canada! These fabrics are knitted and dyed especially for the Schoolyard collection.
As always, we use exclusively eco-friendly (hemp, bamboo etc.) or organic cotton.

Where are the fabrics printed?
Our fabric is screen-printed at a local screen-printing studio. The colours are water-based and are hand mixed. Each print-run will vary slightly from the last.

Where do your paper goods come from?
Our stationary collection as well as our paper packaging and labels are designed and hand-printed by us, in our Toronto studio.
We use exclusively FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) certified paper, 100% recycled, and unbleached kraft papers and tissue wrap.

Is Schoolyard Fabric available for sale?
Yes! We have a small selection of fabric available for purchase by the metre. Please visit our website to see what’s in stock, and contact us via email if you need help with your order.

Who designs your prints/patterns?
We design all of our prints in house. We draw inspiration from the Canadian landscape and from everyday life. We like the uncomplicated, graphic style of early screen-printed everyday goods, graphics and signs and often reference this when developing our work.
We work in our studio, sampling all our new patterns and getting the colour and scale just right.

How do I wash/care for Schoolyard textiles?
There is care information on each item, on the reverse side of the content label, or on the packaging.
We recommend cold water wash and hang drying for almost all our items. Hot water washing wears fabric faster than cold water washing, and tends to dull colours more quickly. Similarly, putting fabric in a hot dryer will often shrink and deteriorate fabric over time.

Our patterns are applied using a permanent and professional textile printing process and will not come off.

To keep your Schoolyard stuff bright and clean, these are some helpful points about the fabrics/fibres we use:

Hemp & Linen fibres become softer and softer with use and washing.

Organic Cotton should be washed in cold water with like colour to preserve their colour-fastness.

Spandex should be washed in cold water and kept out of the dryer, as it is sensitive to heat.

Bamboo should also be kept out of the dryer, as it has a tendency to shrink quite a bit. Bamboo is a beautifully soft fibre and will quickly become your favourite!

Don’t worry if something goes in the dryer by accident! You may notice a bit of shrinking, but it shouldn’t shrink anymore. We wash-test everything and are happy to say pilling is not an issue either.
We are happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have about fabric care.
